PRACTICAL? PATRIOTISM
In March last we published a special issue of The Dominion designed to impress on the public the desirableness of every citizen doing his or her share to encourage the use of British-macfe goods in preference to all others. The point we then stressed was "British goods for British people"—the encouragement of British" trade within the British Empire. The issue met with wide approval and support, and from time'to time we have been urged to follow up the movement thus inaugurated by a further effort oil similar lines. To-day we do this, special emphasis being laid on the desirableness of encouraging local industries. Our readers are invited to give their attention to'the matters touched on both in the news articles and in the various announcements published by business firms concerned with local industries and with the sale of British-made goods, What should be constantly borne' in mi.nd is that everyone can assist in this method of strengthening the •Empire by making it self-contain-ed. Everyone purchases something for himself or herself practically every week in the year, and if every British subject in the Dominion made it his or her business to give .preference whenever possible to British-made goods it would mean a great deal. The best precaution we can take against Germany ever gettiug a hold on this market 'again is to develop the habit of asking for New Zealand-made goods and goods made 'within the' Empire.
