ALL-NIGHT FIGHTING IN THE ARGONNE
GERMANS STUBBORNLY PORTION OF A TRENCH TAKEN By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright _ London, September 9. A Paris communique states: —"There was very violent lighting at La Fon-taine-aux-Charmes, in the Argonne, all night long. The Germans renewed their 'attacks with great persistence, tut our line, except portion of a trench near Binarville, was maintained. There were considerable enemy losses. We made some prisoners. "A French dirigible bombarded the railway station and factories at Vesle. London, September 9. A Paris official message states : —"French aeroplanes dropped fifty bombs on the Challeranga Station." GERMAN. OFFICIAL COMMUNIQUE. ! Amsterdam, September 9. A Berlin official communique states: —The Wnrtemberg and Lorraine Regiment, east of Vienne le Chateau, ill the Argonne yesterday stormed and occupied a front of two kilometres long aad five hundred metres! in depth, and French positions and several vantage points at the Marie Therese fortifications. Wo captured thirty officers, 1999 men, 48' machine-guns, aud 54 bomb mortars.. • ' NO CHANGE ON THE BRITISH FRONT London, September 9. Field-Marslial Sir John French reports that there has been no change siuce August 30. There lias been mining on both sides, buttheresalts wcro unimportant. The artillery has been active eastward of Ypres. Rifle and ina.chine-gun firo brought down a German aeroplane on September 1 behind the German lines, south-east of Hooge. A British fighting machine brought down a second aeroplano on Sunday behind the enemy's lines opposite the southern front. , GERMAN STORY OF THE ZEEBRUGGE BOMBARDMENT. . Amsterdam, September 9. The "Telegraaf," contradicting the German attempt to minimise tho account of the bombardment of says:—The British .Fleet,. from a short distance, fired sixty shells, which killed forty and wounded one hundred men, and destroyed a fort for submarines, with two submarines. It also destroyed two guns on the harbour wall, damaged a third gun, and badly damaged a. central shed containing two airships.
