CALM ON THE BRITISH FRONT SHARP FIGHTING IN THE , ARGONNE London, August 30Sir John French reports:—"Since the cominuniquo of August 18 thero lias been .no lighting on tho British' front: There has been some mining, but coni ditions generally have been normal. '"'We shot down, enemy aeroplanes on August 18 .and 21.:' "Our heavy artillery on .August 25 set lire te a railway station at Langemarck. ' The same'evening the Royal Flying Corps co-operated with our Allies in a successful attack on tho forest of Houthulst without the loss of any of the machines." FRENCH OFFICIAL ' COMMUNIQUE. Paris, August 30. A communique states: '.'Late yesterday there was a-violent'artillery struggle, accompanied by mine explosions. Bomb and- grenade fighting occurred at a great number of places in the Argonne. The enemy's trenches .were seriously damaged at Courteehaussee, and also at Meunssons and the Bois de Bolante. The night was calm.
