Palmer, the newly-elected niemba- of the Board of the New Zealand Trotting Association, is well known in local sporting circles, and is an enthusiast in Doth branches of the sport. Formerly he raced gallopers under an assumed name, and was for years a patron of the Porirua stables. Recently lie'has turned his attention to trotters, and owns some horses in D. Nyhan's stables. Mr. Palmer is vice-president of the Hutt Valley Trotting Club. Mr. J. M'Mahon, cihief stipendiary steward, is just back ,from a. six-weeks! trip to Sj'dney. He will be present at the Marton Meeting next week. Soultiform, who has been off the scene for a considerable time, was a runner in the Hack Handicap at the Eginont-Wa-nganui Hunt Club Meeting. He started a good favourite, but failed to gain a place. Mr. W. Mansell, treasurer, of the Eangitikei Eacing Club, was a visitor to Wellington last week. Derby Day, who won a double at' Amberley twelve months ago, repeated that performance Inst week. He is owned and trained by a lady resident of North Canterbury. The North Canterbury sportsman, Mr. G. N. M'Leau, came up from Lyttelton yesterday to go into camp at Trentham. At Ainberley Ijjt week horses owned by Mr. M'Leau won two races. The successes were gained by Pyjama, in the Farmers' Plate, and! in the Hack Steeples. : The'latter veteran has a. remarkable record in connection with the two cross-country events at Amberley, as, during the last six years, ho has won the Brackenlleld Plate twice, been second once, and third twice, while in the Hack Steeplechase he has two wins and two seconds to Ibis credit. Agatha Green- will be the sole Porirua representative at the Marton Meeting, and the chestnut mare leaves this morning in chafgo of H. M'Sweeney, who will ride" her in lier engagement. Eewa Ke\ya, winner of the Maiden Bace at, the Bgmont-Wanganui Hunt Club Meeting, is by Taitoko from Torpillo, and was bred by the late Mr. J. ,E. M IJonald. H6r dam' is a half-sister to Tortulla, a New Zealand Cup winner. . Moutoa Queen, who is engaged in the Maiden Plate at Marton, 'h<ails from I''. Tilley's stables. She. is by Charlemagno 11 from Stressa, and raced three times at the last New Zealand Cup Meeting, but without success. She has a big pull in the weights in.
