SAILORS' FRIEND SOCIETY

ANNUAL MEETING. Tli(j annual meeting of the Wellington Sailors'. < Friend Society... was held last evening, the chairman of'the Executive Committee (Mr. W. Allen) presiding. Mr. James Moore, Missioner, said that a,year and'eight months ago it had'been arranged that the society should begin work in. the Queen's Chambers, and it was thought .that instead of presenting the annual report and balance-siieet eight months ago,- they should wait till the aniversary of the opening, of the present building. Eleven'-years ago the donor of the building, and land On which it stands had arranged, by her magnificent gift, for the society to come into a. fine building, 6econd to none south of the Line, devoted to the sailors trading in and out of the port of Wellington-. They' were very pleased to have the donor (Mrs.' Williams present with thorn. (Applause.) The balance-sheet (from November, 1913, to July, 1015) showed receipts from subscriptions, donations, offertories, sale of work, 1 etc., aggregating ,£722 Bs. Id,, while the expenditure, including the missioner's and, caretaker's salaries, exactly balanced the receipts. In a short address Mr. Moore reviewed the work of tlie society for the past 15 or 16 years. Other speakers including the Hon. J. G. W. Aitken, M.L.C., the and Mr. R. C. Eenner, treasurer,' congraulated the Missioner and the society on the progress made. The anmual report, and balance-sheet were adopted. The following resolution was carried by acclamation:—"That this meeting rejoices that Mrs. M. A. Williams is able to be present at this meeting in the building found so helpful to the thousands of sear men of all creeds who use it from time to time." Mr. W. E. Fuller proposed a ,vote of thanks to the Missioner and Mrs. Mooro and all other helpers who have come forward during the past years. "The following contributed items during the evening:—Madame Mueller, Misses Irene Fairclough, Harper, and Mueller, Mr. and Mrs. Downes, and Messra. Ward, Nash, aid Culverwell.
