GERMANS IN INDIA
OFFICIAL PRECAUTIONS By Telegraph—Press Association—Conyrioht (Rec. August 15, 3.40 p.m.) Delhi, August 14. The Government of India has issued a statement on the' action taken in regard to Germans and Austriaus in India. . At the outbreak of the ■ war' enemy subjects ivero registered;":/ disr, aimed, and placed uiider police' "sur-' veillance, the latter under the special powers taken prohibiting and regulating tho entry, departure, and residence of enemy subjects and those of military age interned at Ahmednagar and Bombay, numbering 1143, the rest have been placed 'linear supervision. Special consideration has been shown to missionaries. If of good behaviour they are allowed .to remain at their posts on parole, aud vouched for by responsible Britishers. Individuals exhibiting objectionable conduct havo been concentrated at convenient centres, where supervision is easier. There' are 1232 in civil charge of whom 489 are missionaries and their families. • It has now been dccided to repatriate all women and children aiid men not of military age which will be carried out as soon as arrangements are completed. Prior to the somo missions received . Government assistance, which was discontinued. Tho question of stricter control of naturalised . subjects is under consideration. Hostile trading has not been dealt with in the orders issued.
