Zealand Shipping Company's steamer Ws-lmfto arrived at Auckland on Tuesday evening from Liverpool, via Durban anil Hobart "after a protracted voyage of 67 days. The vessel loaded at tho Hoiho port 'Tinder charter to .the Federal-Shiro Line, for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton. and Duneftru. and sailed on June 4. After, leaving Durban, reports a jiortliern exchange, the Waiuiate ran into heavy gales, setas which broke on dock away dock fittings, smashed in deck-cabin doors, and completely wrecked tho officers' and clew's quarto's and the diumg saloon. In addition to this damage, the seas carricd away ventilators, and broko or twisted a'l steam pipe oasings and pipes on tho d-°cUs whilo the starboard mils were broken, and everything movable was sivppt oveirboard. One great wall of water which broke over tho ship bartered the carpenter's shop to. pieces, and swept the remains over the side. • Another sea, broke oyer the '•igh bridge, and the- water burst ,in No. 3 hatch. Large quantities of water found their way into the hold, and it is feared that « large portion of the wirgo. has been badly damaged. The weather gradually improved, and fli3 tho Waimate had run short of bunker coal,'a call was made at' Hobart 1o obtain suppliea. After discharging 1800 tons of general mciohardlse at Auckland, the vessel is to load a. general cargo for London, and is exjieeted to sail for Wellington and southern ports to-morrow to complete her discharge and loading.
