London, August 11. A Berlin communique states: "Field-Marshal von Hindenburg easily repulsed - strong ; Russian advances along the Riga-Mitau Road. Tliero is no cliango northward of the Niemen, , "A strong Russian attack from Kovno failed. Wo have captured here 2116 men since August 8. "We are advancing oast of Lomza in tho direction of the Bobr-Narew line. The enemy still holds the bridgehead at Wyznia. "The entire Russian line is retreating. Our pursuing troops crossed the Caerwony and 13roka Rivers, and, advancing eastward, captured tho railway junction south-east of Ostrof (on the Warsaw-Petrograd railway). "The Russians havo evacuated Benjaminow fortress, eastward of Novo Georgievak. Our airships bombed Novo Georgievsk and Brestlitovsk. • "Priiico Leopold's left wing, pursuing tho enemy, has reached Kaluszyn. "General von Woyrsch, upon tho right wing, stormed the rearguard positions on both sides of the Olanka, westward of Lukof, capturing a thousand men" THE NAVAL ATTACK ON RIGA. (Rec. August 12, 9.30 p.m.) Amsterdam, August 12. 'A German naval official communique states: "We attacked on August 10 the fortified island of TJto, at the entrance to the Alands Archipelago, and compelled a Russian force, which included a cruiser of the Makaroff class, to retreat. "We also silenced the enemy's coast"batteries and on the same day our oruisers drove back the Russian destroyers into the bay at Riga, one of them being on fire. Hostile submarines repeatedly attacked us, but all the torpedoes missed."PREPARING FOR THE WORST AT KOVNO. Petrograd, August 11. The Government Departments at Kovno have been transferred to Bobrinsk.
