FOR RAILWAY MEN ON MILITARY DUTY. . Als considerable doubt existed as to the exact position in respect to the payment by the Government of superannuation contributions duo by members of the Railway Service who have been granted, leave to enlist, the Executive Committeo recently asked tho General Manager if' he. would inform them as to the position in,which members accepted for active service stood in relation to the- Superannuation Fund, and' at the same tinie inquired if thc'De-. partment proposed to as far as possible meet tho cases.of any returned members who might be unfortunate enough to be partially disabled. The following reply was received from the General Manager (Mr. E. H. Hiley): —"Sir, —With reference to your letter of the 15th instant,'in which you ask to be informed of _ the position in respect to superannuation of those members absent with tho Expeditionary Forces, I have to inform .you that during their absence on military duty the/ Government will pay the contributions of all members to "tho Superannuation Fund and the latter will not be required to refund tho' amounts. If a member re? turns medically unfit and is granted a military pension his allowance from tho Superannuation Fund will not bo affected thereby, nor will his military pension be reduccd owing to tho fact that lie is entitled to superannuation allowance. In cases where members, are maimed the Department will place them in suitable positions wherever possible."
