. 1 [By Glekcoe.] The stallion Spalpeen, who has been at the stud in the Waikato for some time, was submitted to auction at Hamilton last week, but was passed in, 500 guineas being the best offer forthcoming. Sir George Clifford has leased the stallion Autumnus, by Treadmill—Goldleaf, to the Wellington sportsman, Mr. H. Whitney. Autumnus arrived from the south yesterday and will take up stud duty at Sir. Whitney's stud this season. When doinj a schooling task over the fences at Riccarton on Tuesday morning, one of Tim Doolan's hind bandages came loose, and the horse jumped the'two last obstacles with about 10ft. of ribbon streaming behind hitn. It was fortunate that he did not feet the bandage round his legs, as if that had bappened.it is quite probable that he would have been brought down. . '~ At the Waimate Hunt 'Club's meeting ? last week, in the Hunt Cup Steeplechase, Ikowai fell at the hencoop, and his rider, W. Fielding, sustained concussion of the brain. When riding at the Waimate Hunt meeting two years ago' Fielding had a fall at. the same spot, and fractured his skull.

Adams'will have tlio mount on the Auckland horse Ngatoa in the Grand National Steeplechase. The annual jockeys' football match between the North and South Island horsemen will' take place pt Upper Riccarton during the coming week. In connection with the match, a collection is to be takon up for tihe Wounded Soldiers' Fund. The committee of the Dunedin Jockey Club has decided to increase the prize list for next season, bringing the total stake money up to ,£15,000. The Hawke's Bay Jockey Club is donating JE6OO to the Wounded Soldiers' Fund. The annual meeting of the Masterton Racing Club was held last night, when officers were..elected for tho ensuing year and the stewards were authorised to expend .£3OOO in stakes for the coining season. Authority isas also given to make subscriptions to the Patriotic Fund.
