At a meeting of Sydney meatpacking factories, it was stated that seven factories were idle owing to tho refusal of tho War Office for some unknown reason to let any canned me.lt contracts to New South Wales firms, and ; also to tho Federal Government's action in declining to allow meat to be exported except for Government purposes. Complaints wero inado that Americans had secured a monopoly of the War Office business. They were told their meat was all right, and that the prices were not too high, yet since the beginning of the year all ordors had gone to America.
It was dccidcd to ask tlie Fedoral Government to relieve tlie deadlock, either by removing the embargo on thr ' export, or by ascertaining the Wai Office's reasons for its refusal to accept contracts. Tlie Federal Prime Minister (Mr. Fislier) states that investors are holding out for bigger interest on the next instalment war loan. They will not get it.
