CREST OF A RIDGE CARRIED KEPORT BY GENERAL SIR lAN HAMILTON By Telegraph—Press Association-Copyright The High Commissioner reports:— London, 'August 3, 2.20 p.m. "General Sir lan Hamilton reports that on Monday our right position, held by tho Australian and New Zealand corps, carried out a successful attack against a network of Turkish trenches, which were beginning to threaten tho safety of our advanced post, called Tasmania Post. "Tho attack consisted of a bombardment of t-lio neighbouring works, and the explosion of three mines under a soction of a trench. The sections were occupied immediately, and another section was ruslied with the bayonet. "The Turks did not counter-attack. At least 70 Turks were killed, and as a result we gained the crest of a ridge, and materially improved our position on that section of the line." TURKISH OFFICIAL COMMUNIQUE. (Rec. August -1, 8.10 p.m.) Constantinople, August 3. Official.—"Tho enemy on Saturday directed artillery and rifle fire at our trench at Ari Burnu, threw bombs, and exploded two mines, following up with a. feint, attack against our left wing. ENVER PASHA AND THE BULGARS A CONFERENCE AT ADRIANOPLE.. Athens, 3. Envoi- Pasha is conferring with Bulgarian officers at Adrianople. Turkey is obtaining large quantities of corn from Bulgaria. IMPORTANT TURKISH DECISION REPORTED, (Rec. August 4, 9.40 p.m.) Mitylene, 'August 4. 'Advices from Constantinople state that Enver Pasha gave a political dinner at which the guests included the Grand Vizier, Tewlik Pasha, and Marshal Fuad (the latter an out-and-out advocate of peace). It is understood that an important decision was taken, unfavourable to the Germans, none ofwhom wero invited. The dissensions between Enver Pasha and General von Sanders continue. THE TURCO-BULGAR ENTENTE GERMAN BANKS SUPPLYING FIJNDS TO BULGARIA, (Rec. August 4, 10.40 p.m.) London, August 4. _ Reuters agent at Athens reports that the Greek newspapers, without distinction of party, are commenting upon the Turco-Bulgarian entente. They say that in tho event of Bulgaria attacking Servia, Greece would prove that the treaty between Greece and Servia was not a vain word. Greece would consider it an obligation and honour to aid Servia immediately. A wireless from Berlin states that the German Bank Coalition has secured an option of two hundred and fifty million francs of the Bulgarian State loan. Tho Coalition is also assured the right of an option, until August, 1917; of a further two hundred and fifty million francs, and the right of railway and harbour construction works ill Bulgaria.
