COLONIALS IN ACTION
HOT . FIGHTING IN GALLIPOLI ■ ; HILL CREST CARRIED . BATTLE ON THE YSER TREMENDOUS .CANNONADING THE RUSSIAN CRISIS GERMAN ONSET WEAKENING . 'As day follows day, and the Polish capital still remains free from the intrusion of tie invaders, critics and correspondents are viewing the situation ill a more optimistic spirit. To-day's news gives fresh evidence of 'the changing aspect of the situation. The German Press finds it necessary to explain away the pause which has intervened in tho recent rapid' and almost dramatic onset of the enemy, and tho sinking of a Gorman transport, which was conveying troops to Libau for von Bulow's "hard-pressed army," is regarded as being far more important' in its moral effect than in tho loss of men involved. Signs of a great battle on the Yser front—tremendous cannonading, and streams of wounded—are reported .from Amsterdam, but the official communiques .are' silent on the subject. Tho Australians and New Zinlanders have been the principal actors in the storming of a hill crest in Gallipoli, and their exploit is the subject of a dispatch by General Sir lan Hamilton.
