AIR RAIDS BY THE ALLIES' SQUADRONS The High Commissioner reports London, August 1, 6.30 a.m. "Paris reports that a few bombs wore dropped by aviators on Dunkirk, but these caused insignificant damage. "Artillery activity is reported at several points. "Seven French aeroplanes bombarded" the station and the 'Aviatik' factories at Friburg. On the return journey one aviator was compelled, by motor trouble, to land in the enemy's lines." Lodon, August 2, 1.35 a.m. "Sir John French reports that further fighting on Friday resulted in our recapture of a portion of the trenches west of Hooge. "On Saturday action was oliiefly confined to artillery, but-at night we repulsed two further infantry attacks. "Paris states that a German battalion was surprised while reforming in Villosiu'-Trey, and subjected to the rapid and effective fire of several French batteries." - ' FRENCH OFFICIAL COMMUNIQUE. ' Ho sustained very considerable less. ' GERMAN OFFICIAL COMMUNIQUE (Rec. 'August 2, 6.45 p.m.) London, August 2. A Berlin communique states: "A British attack on our new position at Hooge completely collapsed. "Great aerial activity continues. We dropped thirty bombs, on tho British flying ground at Saint Pol. An enemy squadron unsuccessfully bombarded the German aerodrome at Douai, where one of our battlo aeroplanes shot down an enemy aeroplane. Wo dropped one hundred and threo bombs on the flying "round at Nancy. Eighteen of tlie bombs hit the tents. The enomy's machines ascended to defend tho aerodrome, but failed. Six aproplanes attacked fifteon French 1 machines at Chateau Salins, and after a forty-five minutes' fight, several French machines were forced to land. When tho enemy was reinforced,' wo retreated without loss. < ''During thp fighting in the Argonne on the twentieth of July, we captured 12-5 officers, 0610 men, and fifty-two machine-guns."
