RESTRAINED TONE OF GERMAN PRESS
PREPARING THE PUBLIC FOR DISAPPOINTMENT, ' - Amsterdam, August 1, The tone of -the German newspapers is restrained. They are apparently preparing the publio for a disappointment regarding the non-fulfilment of the predicted Russian debacle. One' paper comments: "The Grand Duke Nicholas Las done more than wo expected, but his trial will bo too hard. The next events in the main theatre will be at Ivangorod and Cliolm, and probably tho fortress of Brest Litovsk will exercise a magnetic attraction upon the Russians. DESPERATE FIGHTING LIKELY. (Rcc. August 2, 10.20 p.m.) Rotterdam, August 2. None of the German papers are allowed to state that Warsaw is being evacuated. The Headquarters Staff is deliberately working the Press so as to conceal tho fact that the victory is a hollow ono. s All the war correspondents and official reports continue to suggest desperate fighting is likely to end in Warsaw being; stormed, the battle being followed by. the Kaiser's state entry into tho city. GERMAN' TROOPS STILL COMING FROM THE WEST. ■. Petrograd, August* 1. It is semi-ofßcially stated that' Germany continues to send troops to Russia from the west. 1
