AN APPEAL
In another column we publish a letter from the hon. secretary of the Mayor of Wellington's Patriotic Committee in which an urgent appeal is made for funds to wipe out the existing dcficit of £IXS and to provide the committee with sufficient money to enable them to supply comforts' for 'our soldiers in camps, hospitals, and troopships. The position is fully explained by the secretary, and the need for prompt action iu -order to enable the committee to continue its good work will be_ plain to everyone. There is certainly ample scope for the committee's operations, but the work cannot be continued unless the necessary funds are available. Since the beginning of tho war many calls have been made on the generosity of the citizens of Wellington, and they have not been niggardly in their giving. 'It is to be hoped that they will once again give practical proof of their patriotism, and' make a quick and liberal response to this latest appeal for funds.
