The Government Statistician reports in July the number of "abstract of statistics" that according to thresihinK returns ■were .received, up to July 20. The actual quantity of wheat threshed was ■ 6,581,629 bushels. It has been found thait no returns of areas were furnished in a number of cases by farmers on- whose behalf grain has been threshed. This indicates that threshing returns ere correct, and. that the, total area returned was considerably below the actual area which, was under wheat. The census of stocks of wheat, oaits, and flour in the Dominion' was taken on Juno 30, but the final results are not yet available. .

HOJfEY MARKET. The Bank of England discount rat« vras en January 2, 1914, reduced from 5 to 45 per cent., on January 22 it was reduced to 4 per cent., and on January 28 3 per cent. Ou July 30 the rate was raised to 4 per cent, and on January 28 3 per cent., and en August 1 it waa further advanced to 10 yer cont. On August 6 the rate was reduced to 6 per cent., on August ? it was furtker reduced to 5 per cent., at which rate it now stands. Tho Bank of Franco rate Is S per cent., as against 4 per cent, last year. OPEN MARKET BATES The open market discount rate for throe months' bills is 5J per cent., as compared with. 5 per cent, last vieek and —- per cent, last year.
