TECHNICAL EDUCATION

MEETING OP THE BOARD. ■ ' The monthly meeting of the Technical Education . Board was held last night. There were present: Mr. D: Robertson (chairman), the Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke), the Hon. 3. G. W. Aitken, and Messrs. G: Frost and W. H. Field". The financial statement showed receipts at .£242 19s. Gd., and expenditure 47J8, including <£617 for wages. The debit balance was 41403 155., but against this cheques outstanding included .£2159 capitation, and claim for rent 4125. Tho approximate financial position up to August 1 showed the amounts due to tho board as 43281, as against 42907 up to the 6ame date last year. The debit balance and unexpended grants amounted to 41629, ; leaving a balance of-418S0. . The Director (Mr. ,W. S. La Trobe) presented a further report on the subjcct of training youths in tho oarpeutry trade, and recommended- that tho suggested Buildings Trades Board 'of Control, on tho lines of tho Engineering, Plumbing, and Electrical Boards, be set up to Control the carpentry and building construction classes. He suggested that tli9 board should have the following' constitution :—(l) Chairman; an independent authority on building, preferably an architect or civil, engineer appointed by tho Technical Board; (2) a member of the Technical Education Board; (3) a representative of tho master builders; (1) a representative of the journeymen carpenters and joiners; (5) secretary, the Director nf Technical" Education. Ho further suggested that the functions of this body should be advisory, and of the samo general character as those of the other boards of control. The report was adopted, and tho Director instructed to tako steps to form the board. A resolution of appreciation was passed to all the students who are forking on 'behalf of tlib Belgian Relief Fund.
