UNCONSCIOUS WOMAN IN BUILD/ ING. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, July 29. A fire, attended by most suspicious 'circumstances concerning the death o£ an old lady named Annete Mumford, occurred in Synionds Street this even* ing, about 7.15 o'clock. A passer-by noticed smoko and flames issuing from above a verandah. Ho immediately, rushed to the front door and tried to open it, but found it was locked. Hel then* went round the side of the house and opened a window and entered tha building. On going through the bouse ho found Mrs. Mumford lying unconscious on her back in a sitting room, at the rear of tlie house. She was taken. Dr. Casement Aitkin's surgery, which is next door, but she expired almost mediately. . . . The old lady lived practically alone, and was by herself when the fire broka out. It was subsequently ascertained that her injuries consisted of a depressed compound fracture over the right) eye, which extends along the nose. It is thought that this could have hardly, been caused by a fall, and foul play is suspected. ' -
