FARMERS" REGRET
FURTHER ATTEMPT "DRGED. Tho failure of the negotiations in regard to coalition was touched upon at yesterday's sitting of the Farmers' Union Conference, when the president (Sir James G. Wilson) moved: "That this conference regrets to see that the negotiations between the two parties in "the House to form a National Ministry havo fallen through, and would, in the interests of tho Dominion, urge that both sides niake a- further attempt to come to an arrangement." In speaking briefly to the motion, SirJames Wilson said that this, seemed a fitting time to voice an'opinion on tho matter. There was a feeling of anxiety all over the Dominion that party strife should be set aside at the present juncture,,and. that finality should bo reached 011 tho question of coalition. 'Mr. J. Boddio (Auckland) seconded the motion, and spoke strongly, in favour of all parties working together, in the one cause at this time. Mr. G. Gardner (North Canterbury) remarked that it was clear where the fault lay. Ho was going 011 to suggest that Mr- Massey should be Primo Minister aud Mr. Allen Minister of Defence when cries of protest arose. Mr. G. Anderson (Pelorus Sound) disagreed with Mr. Gardner's remarks as to selection. He considered, however, that pressure • should be brought'to. boar to terminate the current deadlock and bring about the end that was generally desired. ' Major Lusk (Auckland) - spoke on similar lines to tho mover and the seconder of tho motion, and practically every member of the conference expressed strong views as to tho desirability of all parties working together in the present lifo-and-death struggle. Tho motion was carried unanimously, mid copies of it were dispatched to every member of Parliament. When tho motion was disposed of the members of the conference rose and B aii" the National Anthem.
