Speaxing atthe Commercial, Travellers' annual dinner, Mr. Holman (Preinier of New South iWales), said that the approaching climax to the war had been «• race.between Britain and Germany to tiring into existence liew armies. '.'The German authorities," he said, "must know that they wiill be outnumbered, but they still have another chance of bringing up a reserve force before Britain can do so. Apparently Germany has beaten Britain in tho racei for' the moment, and is holding greater forces than even tlie 'Allies, reinforced by Italy, are able to placo in the field.. •"The moment had arrived when Ger- • man generalship was falling back on the last hope, and the trial which would now be made would bo exerted with the utmost tensity and concentration of tho German Empire. The struggle our men ; .will have to make will entirely eclipso anything that - lias yet occured.: Tho. hour of the crisis is upon us,, not past, «s some optimists tell us."
