THOSE FREE CABLEGRAMS

FOR WOUNDED SOLDIERS.

Some misapprehension is fairly, general about the cablegrams that may be sent free of cost by next-of-kin inquiring for wounded soldiers in hospitals in Egypt or dsewhere. As Mr. J. A. Young pointed out in the House yesterday, relatives have no right to send three free cablegrams, as many people ' .suppose. Cabled inquiries may be sent on their behalf, but they have no right to send tlieir own cables free- Mr. Young asked tho Postmaster-General to make an announcement to remove misapprehension. The Hon. R.. H. Rhodes said that the information asked for had! been published in every paper in tho Dominion, having been circulated by tho Press Association, and it could be obtained at pvery post office in tho Dominion. If people wanted more information, he would see whether it", was possible to draiy nj> a poster, setting it forth, and these printed posters would be displayed outside post offices or in other places of public resort. The statement that people had a right to send three freo cablegrams had never been published. They could make three free inquiries through, tho Post Office, and the Post Office collected the inquiries and seiit off a lot in one cablegram. If this was not clearly understood he would see about having it made clear. Separate messages of,inquirv could be' sent to any soldier by next-of-kin, in this country, and arrangements could bo made for a prepaid reply, but messages of this sort had' to be paid for.
