The "Times" correspondent with tho Russian forces spent .three days with the Russian'third army, which has seen t'ho hardest lighting. "They entered Galicia at the extreme east last year, lighting around Lemberg, Grodek, and Przemysl, and thence, in the Carpathians, capturing, is the commander informed me, 300,000 prisoners. Sinco then they have been lighting back with similar determination and stubbornness. \ > "I've, motored hundreds of miles along the Russian front, observing advanced positions, talking to officers of'all ranks, who. stated that the Russians have inflicted losses greater than they have received during tho Galician retirement, ■ which was conducted lilto a manoeuvre. THE CROSSING OF THE SAN,' 'AND AFTER., '' ("Times" and Sydney "Sun" Services.) (Rec. July 16, 9 p.m.) London, July 16. xhe Press Bureau has issued the following statement:— . "After the crossing of the San, the Germans thought that they were through the Russian lines, but the gap was filled instantly from the reserves. At another spot the Germans launched their cavalry through what seemed to be an empty space; without delay the tide was stemmed by tho Cossacks. "Nest day, everywhere, fresh troops' were arriving, and measures being taken to render a repetition of the earlier losses unlikely. The Russians were 600 yards from the Germans, and had orders to advance in little stages. Twenty men crawled forward together, scraped up a protection breast-high, • and then established themselves, while the Germans pelted them with shrapnel. . . "Prisoners stated that despite their successes in Galicia. tho mood of the Germans is nothing like the first great outburst of enthusiasm."
