A YOUNG WOMAN'S LAPSE •A' young married woman of respectable appearance, named Frances Maud Robertson, pleaded guilty in the Magistrate's Court yesterday to stealing a cameo brooch and ring from Eliza Jane Moore. Chicf-Detcctiv.e Boddam explained that the jewellery had been stolen on January 20 from Mrs. Moore's house, in Bidwell' Street, and Detective Abbott had successfully traced tho offender. Tho stolen property had since been recovered. In view of tho mitigating circumstances explained on accused's behalf bv Mr. W. Perry, the Magistrate decided to convict. accused, and ordered her to come up for sentence when called upon, on condition that tho 30s. which had boon paid to accused by a pawnbroker for one of the stolen articles, was' refunded to . the pawnbroker. A young man named Harry Urqu'hart pleaded not guilty to a cluirgo of stealing a purso and jewellery, valued at £12 155., the property of Mary Edwards. Mr. P. W. Jackson appeared for accused. After hearing tho evidence, the Magistrate sentenced TJrquhart to fourteen days' imprisonment. Wm. Alexander, Sammons pleaded guilty to assaulting Florrie Dulcio Sammons, and was fined £3, in dofault one month's imprisonment. Joseph Leonard said "ho must plead guilty" to a charge of using obscene language, and was fined 205., with tho option of three'days' imprisonment. On a charge . of assaulting Harry George Lee, Thomas Campbell was fined £2., ivith Bs. witnesses'. expenses, in. dofault soven days' imprisonment. 1 John Hiokey was fined £3, in default fourteen days' detention, for assaulting Constable Brennan, and £2, or seven days' imprisonment, for obstructing Constable Black. James Darieai and James Kerr were each fined £2, with alternatives of soven day»s' imprisonment on charges of indecency. For drunkenness, Daricn was convicted and discharged, ajul Kerr fined 205., with an option of three days' imprisonment. * David Taft was fined 10s., in default forty-eight hours' imprisonment, for drunkenness, and on a charge of using obscene language fined £3, or olio month's imprisonment. ■ Charged with drunkenness, Andrew John Davidson was sentenced to two months' imprisonment, and Patrick Sullivan fined 205., in default tbroo days' imprisonment.
