FRESH SUCCESS IN GALLIPOLI
IMPORTANT POSITIONS TAKEN AN INTERESTING DISPATCH GERMAN ATTACKS ON WESTERN FRONT REPULSED AT EVERY POINT ' FIGHTING IN NORTHERN POLAND
The war sews to-day 'discloses no radical developments cither in tTie Eastern or Western theatres. There is considerable activity in Northern Poland, where, on ontf sector, tlio Russians have declined a ■ decisive engagement, ■ and withdrawn to their second line. Tlio British front south-east of Pilken, which is close to the Yser Canal, on the eastern bank, lias been attacked by the Germans, 'without success, while at other points along the line their attacks have all been met and held. The Italian advance is steadily progressing into Austrian territory, and on the Adigi front the fighting, at Roveretto is assuming dimensions of:a great conflict. The Mies in Gallipoli have captured two important hill positions dominating Krithia, and the Fleet has resumed the bombardment of the Straits.' Mr. Ashmead Bartlett, the war correspondent, contributes a most interesting review of the military situation in Gallipoli before and after the fighting of June 28, and his impressions of the Turk as a fighting man nro most informative. A section of public opinion in England strongly resents the conccalment of the loss of Hill 60, that famous stronghold which was captured by the British, some time ago, and round, which • subsequently most severe fighting took place. The matter will ba brought up in the House following upon, notice by Mr. Ronald M'Neil to ask Mr. Asquith why the news was suppressed.
