A remarkable war gift comes from the natives of Tanna, Now Hebrides, who were, until quite recently, cannibal savages (says an English paper). 'J'lio large sum of £70 was collected entirely by them, and taken to the missionary working in connection with tlio John G. I'aton Mission Fund, in order that it should be sent to England for the widows and oi'phajis of the British soldiers. "To appreciate what the gift really means," says tlie missionary, "it is necessary to remember that theso natives are amongst the most primitive races of tho world. Till quite recently their island - was called Dark Tanna. From 1839 till the end of tho Nineteenth Century missionary effort among theso tribes seemed almost fruitless. Dr. Paton, D'r.
