COMPULSORY LOCAL SCHEME FOR MEN AND WOMEN. , By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright London, June 29. The President of the Local Government Board (Mr. Walter Long), in the House of Commons, briefly outlined the scheme for compulsory local registration. It applies to men and women between the ages of 15 and 65. Particulars asked include age and what employment, and whether a special form of labour is desired by persons willing to volunteer apart from that in which they are at present engaged. The Local Government Board will controll the registration. There will be penalties for noil-compliance. The object of the Act is not to coerce labour, but to seoure a complete and general satisfactory organisation. The Government believes the resources of the country are sufficient if mobilised.
