Trooper Erie AY, Inder, of the Auckland Mounted Rifles, who was reported ivoundcd at the Dardanelles last week, is a son of Mr. F. Inder, of the G P. 0., Wellington. According to private advice received yesterday, Trooper Inder received a shrapnel wound in the right forearm, and the wound is now completely healed. He is at present enjoying a short rest at Malta. Private Smith; son of Mrs. Henry Smith, of Clifton House, The Terrace, who went' to the front with tho 3rd Brigade of the First Australian Expeditionary Force, writing under date May 9, reports all well. Private Smith was ill the first landing party at the Dardanelles, and was unhurt. He has sinea been promoted and has been appointed orderly-room sergeant. Fireman C. J. Kent, of the Petone Fire Brigade, who has 1 enlisted, was last evening granted special leave of absence by the Petone Fire Board. Mr. Alric Butter, of the Vacuum Oil Company's staff, was the recipient of a presentation yesterday oil the occasion of his leaving the company's employ to join the 6th Reinforcements. Mr. Butler goes into camp to-day.' In referring to the death of Mr. James Trevor, late president of the Newtown Bowling Club. Mr. C. M. Luke, as chairman at the annual meeting of the club held last evening, said that lie desired to place on record the splendid sendees that had been rendered to the club by Mr. Trevor. He had been most assiduous in his attention to tiie affairs of the club and most generous in the support he accorded to its funds. Mr. Trevor had endeared himself to all members, and bis genial disposition and hearty manner would be greatly missed on the. green. A vote of sympathy was also recorded on the minutes in connection with the late Mr. J. Copithorne. - Detective A. Bailey, of the local Detective Force, resigned from tho Police Force yesterday. Detective Bailey joined the Wellington Force as a constable in 1902, being later proiroted to -the detective branch. He has been stationed here for the past 13 years. Last ni"ht at the Lambton Quay Police fetation Detective Bailey received a presentation from the members of the staff there, both detective and constabulary. The presentation, which took the rorm of a handsome pair of gold-mounted pipes, was made by Detective-Sergeant M'llveney, who spoke highly of the esteem in which Detective Bailev was held bv members of tho Force and by those civilians who kucw him. Detective .Bailey suitably responded. Mr. Thomas Jones, Assistant Inspector of Departmental Accounts, Treasury Department, relinquished those duties yesterday. He ias accepted a commission in the Seventh Reinforcements, at present in camp at Trentham. Mr. F. Morrell, of Bulls, was a visitor to Wellington yesterday. Mr. J. D. Lynch, of Messrs. Mart, Sprot and Co., Greymouth, is at preeeir on a business visit to Wellington.
