TARANAKI OILFIELDS
AND THE SHELL COMPANY. By T€legrapli.—Fress Association. New Plymouth, Juno '28. Mr. P. A. Haclley, Auckland, was interviewed ill connection with the recent, statements of Sir Marcus Samuel .with reference to the prospects of obtaining oil from New Zealand, which he stated were nil. the Shell Transport Company having abandoned hope of obtaining any. Mr. Hadle.v said the statement, so far as the public was concerned, conveyed the idea that the Shell Company had endeavoured to producc oil- through, out tho Dominion, and as a result had had to abandon hope of doing so; instead of this, however, the Shell Company had drilled for less than a year at Kot'uku. on the West Coast of the South Island, and for- two years_ at Weber, on the East Coast of the North Island," but they bad never drilled aiiywhere in the Taranaki province. New Plymouth was the only proven oilfield in New Zealand, and trie statement accredited to the chairman of the Shell Company would, to say theioast, seriously prejudice, _if not effectively kill, this very promising industry.
Men who wish to be well dressed will be interested in an announcement of the Crown Clothing Company's in this issue. Messrs. Abraham and Williams, Ltd., hold stock sales at Johnsonville to-mor-row, and at Levin on Friday.
