Ilia Honour Mr. Justice Cooper is expected to reach Wellington from tlie north in about a fortnight's time. All the other judgOo of the Supreme Court are at present i'p Wellington. Private John Muriwai died in tlio Wellington Hospital yesterday as jtlie result of measles and pneumonia contracted at Trentham Camp. The body is to be taken to Whangarei for burial, at the request of friends of the deceased. Yesterday was the young man's birthday, ho having been bom on June 28. 1888! Mr. J. R. Kirk, of Gisborne, arrive*? in Wellington yesterday to attend the first meeting of the newly-constituted Council of Education for the Dominion. Mr. Kirk is staying at the Hotel Cccil. The death is announced, after a short illness, of Mr. Charles C. Roskruge. Deceased was 24 years of age, and the second son of the late Mr. Edward lloskruge. He was educated at Wellington College, and took a keen interest in all athletic spocts, being a member of both the Old Boys' Sports Clubs, and the Wellington Referees' Association. Ho is survived by two brothers and two sisters.
News by the last San Franoisco mail shows that Mr. Colin Carr, of Rntorua, and a nephew of Nurse E. E. Walker, of Marion Street, Wel'ington, lias received an appointment by the British Government as an inspector in the large works at Butler, a few miles from Pittsburg, whero steel shells and shrapnel are manufactured. Ho is one of three inspectors in the works. Mr. C. B. Bonie, of the Kaiapoi Woollen Company, has left to join the head office in Ohristchurch, after seventeen years' servico as manager of the Wellington branch of the company. Before leaving, Mr. Bowie was presented by tho local stalf with a travelling bag as a memento of their esteem. A presentation was also made to Mrs. Bowie. Mr. Quinn, manager of the Wanganui branch, succeeds Mr. Howie as manager of tho Wellington branch. Mr. George E. Dines died in a private hospital in tho City late on Sunday night, aftera brief illness. He developed pneumonia a week previously, and, as complications set in a few days later, there was from that stage little hope of his recovery. Deceased, who was only 28 years of age, had been in the employ of Messrs. M'Eldowney Bros., warehousemen, until November last, .when he entered into business on his own account.
