The Legislative Council met at 2.30 p.m. yesterday. . , Tho Hon. A. T. CABNCROSS presented the report of tlie Standing Orders Committee on the election ot Speaker and Chairman of Committees, recommending certain amendments in the rules., _ , SIR FRANCIS BELL gave notice to move that the amendments be made in terms of the committee's report, air Francis Bell also moved other motions relating to tlie suspension or amendment of the Standing Orders relating to the election of Speaker and Chairman of Committees. All the motions were agreed to without discussion.

LEAVE OF ABSENCE. Leave of absence for one month was granted to the Hon. W. J ,lk ° ra ' Hon. R. K. Simpson, and the Hon. W. Morgan, on the ground, in every case, of illness. , „ „ The Council ross at 2 o0 p.m.
