THE RUSH FOR STOCK

A NATIONAL CAMPAIGN APPLICATIONS SATISFACTORY IN BRITAIN. London, June 25. It is understood that the applications for the war loan are satisfactory. The Bank of England has issued four million prospectuses. It is still difficult to sell Consols, as it is doubtful how trustees and many other holders will be able to raise the money to make application for the war loan, which is necessary before the conversion rights accrue. Many city men advocate that the "rights" should be made detachable, so that rights to convert Consols can be bought and sold. It is estimated that the London banks have already received applications for £150,000,000 of the wax loan. (Rec. June 27, 2.30 p.m.) London, June 26. The Prime Minister (Mr. Asquith) will inaugurate a national campaign on behalf of the war loan at the Guildhall on Tuesday, at which the necessity for economics will be emphasised. Mr. R. M'Kenna (Chancellor of the Exchequer) has formed a Parliamentary War Savings Committee in the interests of national economy, and is arranging meetings throughout the country. Many firms are adopting the suggestion to bank employees' savings to enablo them to purchase ss. vouchers. Some firms are adding a bonus. Tho Committee of the General ation of Trade Unions is submitting a proposal to invest £10,000, and has also recommended mombers to purchaso vouchers, and requested Mr. M'Kenna to facilitate trade union investments. The prizes at Maidenhead School sports included loan vouchers. Though the response to the war loan is satisfactory, it is pointed out in some financial circles that the whole-hearted co-operation of all classes is needed to make the loan adequate for the year's expenditure. GERMAN PRESS BELITTLES THE LOAN. (Rec. June 27, 4.5 p.m.) Amsterdam, June 27. The German Press has bogim a campaign belittling the British war loai), asserting that it is a mere conversion.

now exceeded 5,400,000,000 francs (£214,042,500). He was a strong believer in British financial methods, but resource from taxation provided the least part of the expenditure. Nevertheless. he would consider fresh taxation.
