TIIO Hon. J. Allen, Minister of fence, lias gone south to his home Dunedin. His Grace Archbishop Redwood, wli has been absent from Wellington it Europe and America for nearly tiro years past, returned to Wellington via the United States by tile Maitai yesterday afternoon. The Rev. Herbert Watson, M.A., vicar of Masterton. has been appointed to succeed Archdeacon Harper as vicar of St. Peter's parish. Sir. Watson was educated at Christ's College, Cambridge. He obtained his B.A. degree in 1897 (when he was also Senior Optimo), and his-M.A. degree in 1901. He was ordained deacon in 1898, and priest in ISM. In 1898 he was appointed curate of Holy Trinity, Darlington (England), and from 1902 until 1908 was vicar of Aramoho and Waitotara. In 1908 he was appointed vicar of Masterton, and for some time past has been chaplain to the Bishop of Wellington. Mr. Win. Mikkelsoii, manager for Leo, Jail, Chemiavsky, has arrived in Wellington to make the necessary arrangements for the farewell season here of this celebrated trio, prior to their departure for America. Mr. A. Spence, who has been contributing comments on the war news to the Dmiedin "Star," and was formerly assistant sub-editor of The Dominion, died in Dunedin, after a brief illness, on Saturday night, from pleurisy and other complications. The late Mr. Spence was a keen student of military strategy and military campaigns, and his lucid -writings on military subjects were not only interesting to the public, but much respected in military circles. Mr. Hopkins has been appointed manager of the Masterton Co-operativo Hairy Company from a list of fifteen applicants, telegraphs our Masterton correspondent.
