RAILWAY NATIONAL RESERVE

A PRESENTATION. At tie weekly drill of the railwaymen under the National Reserve system, held last night, Mr. G. A. Troup, chairman of the Executive Council, presented to Mr. E. F. Dawson, stationmaster, Wellington, on behalf of his two colleagues, Messrs. W. Wills and 0. T. O'Louglilin, a gold-mounted cigarette case and holder, suitably inscribed. In making the presentation the chairman spoke in very high terms of the splendid work done by the delegates, Messrs. Dawson, Wills, and O'Loughlin, as organisers of tile Railway National Reserve, who had completed a tour of the New Zealand railways. The result of their mission was being daily exemplified by increased enrolments and by marked activity of all branches. It was only tn be expected that such a result should indicate co-operation and combined effort on the part of each delegate and of loyalty to each other, and it should bo very pleasant to the recipient to know that his two colleagues paid such a public tribute to his management and tact. In the course of his reply Mr. Dawson mentioned that- during their tour of 4G days as organising delegates they had addressed 57 meetings and 34(54 members, visited 33 branches, inaugurating 20, and travelled 3322 miles. He paid a high compliment to liis associates, who b> their close, study of tile work in hand, their tact and platform capabilities, had done so much for the success of th© movement. On behalf of his colleagues and himself he was proud to iinnonnce that they bad the honour of being appointed by the General Manager and his executive as members of the governing body of the Railway National Reserve, an honour of which they felt exceedingly proud.
