BAD WEATHER- DELAYS S.S. JIAITAI. A wiTeless message ha 6 been, received from Captain Stevens, of the Union-Com-pany's Maital, stating that his vessel has been considerably .delayed on the run down from San Francisco to Wellington ny nad weather. The message also stated that the Maitoi would Wellington before to-morrow at earliest, but no time was given. After discharge here .the Malta! will go on'to Lyttelton on Monday and will leave that port,-direct for Sydney on. Tuesday night, or Wednosday morning. R.M.S. REMUERA DUE MONDAY. Continuing her journey from London andCVupe Town, the New Zealand. Shipping. Company's R.M.S. Reinuera left Hobaxt fpr Wellington at 6 a.m. on Thursday. Port should, be made on Monday morning. The.. Reinuera will visit the following coastal ports in the order named:—Lyttelton, Port Chalmers. Timaru, Lyttelton, and Wellington. She is duo back here on July 10, and will sail for London on July 15. STRANGER IN PORT. • Late on Thursday night a strange steamer was observed off Wellington Heads signalling for a pilot. Pilot Davics went out and brought her in during the early hours of tho morning, and she turned out to bo the South Pacific,. 3661 tons, of Cardiff. The vessel needed bunker coal. Captain J. H. Meerix told a DOMINION reporter that the South Pacifio had left New York on May 8 for Melbourne and Sydney, via Panama Oanal, and during the first portion of the journey fair weather, was experionocd. After passing Pitcairm Island however, conditions changed, and they' became exceptionally bad as the South Pacific approached tho. New. Zealand coast. Heavy seas swept tho decks continually, making matters most unpleasant for those on board. The westerly gales were so severe that tho steamer could only log about 120 miles a day. The South Pacific is practically a new steamer, having been built at Sunderland in September, 1913. She Tvas originally owned by the Pacific Shipping, Ltd.. but purchased by Williams and Maude, of rardiff, quite recently. She will continue her journey on to Melbourne and Sydney this morning.

It is announced that the chartered steamer Norman Monarch. 4997 torts, has been fixed to load at Now York for New Zealand ports on July 1 on behalf of the same line. The local office of the "A. and A. Line have also been advised that a steamer named the Turnwell bos been fixed to leave New York on July 12 for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, and Duncdin. Subsequently eho will visit Australian ports. MESS-TABLE GOSSIP. Ifr. J. H. Holm, third engineer of the Ncaiere, has come ashore and Mr. J. J. Flaherty has filled the vacancy. . llr, W. G. Hastae, late third ofiicer of the Arafcuia, has succeeded Mr. E. Gibson as seoond officer of the Poherua. Mr. W. G. Sends has taken Mr. W. G, Soott's place as , chief engineer of the PoherlMr. E. Quigley. accountant in the Gisborne office of the New Zealand Shipping Company, lias been transferred to the Timaru branch in a similar capacity. Shortly after daybreak yesterday the Sliaw-Savill liner Itangatira. oleared Wellington for London, via Monte Video and Teneriffe. She is due at the Home port about July 29. ' The Arahura wall come off the Wellington Patent Slip this morning, and will leave for Picton, Nelson and West Coast ports as usual this afternoon. An expected arrival in port from. London, via Auckland and East Coast ports on Monday, will be the New Zealand Shipping Company's Paparoa. Other ports to be visited are Lyttelton and Picton, tho vessel subsequently returning to Wellington and sailing for London about July 3. According to.reports received from Greymouth tho weather was still bad at that port yesterday, and shippng movements were impossible. Bound from Napier to Westport tho small steamer Squall, was reported to bo sheltering in Blind Bay on Thursday. Thero were several other vessels thero also. The Government steamer Hinemoa will leave tho Bluff for West Coast Sounds and Wellington early to-morrow morning. Tho vessel is duo back at Wellington about Juno 29 or 30. _ -
Tlie erstwhile schooner Eunice lias now been converted into an auxiliary schooner, nnd arrived at Lyttelton on Wednesday afternoon from Auckland, where tho alterations were effected. She is equipped with two 60 h.p. two-cycle hot-bulb heavy cnElnes, supplied by the well-known Eujrlish firm of Wm. Bcadmore and Co. The cylinders are each 9in„ with a 13in. stroke, producing 350 revolutions per minute. Residua oil is used with forced lubrication, and, running at nn average speed, the consumption is about 4 pa.llons per hour, eoual to .56 per h.p. per hour. The Eunice is capable of running at 7 knots per hour under her new power, and a. special feature of t.hc cnginos nnd the fuel is that the risk of tire is reduced to a minimum. On June 22 she will leave New Plymouth Break-water at the usual time, and not 11.30 p.m., as previously announced. As the Richardson steamer Ripplo Is making an extra trip between. Gleborae and Rapier. she will not arrive at Wellington before Tuesday next. Departure will bo taken from this port for Napier and Gis'borno the same day et 6 p.m. Produce and clieose will bo landed at Wellington from the Bluff and Timaru by tho Kittawa on Monday. She then proceeds to the "West Coast. When tho Blackabll Company's steamer Ngakuta has completed discharge at Wellington 6ho will be token up on the Patent Slip at this port on Monday for cleaning and painting. The coastal steamer Defender, -which has been barbound at Hikitika for sevcTal days, is due at Wellington to-morrow to land timber before returning to tho West Coast port.
