ENTRIES EASILY A RECORD.. ~ Preparations for the big winter event ■ftt Pdlmerston North are now. in full swing, and the showgrounds and buildings have assumed that air of bustle whidh is inseparable from the place at 'show time. The secretary advises that the eni/ries are a record, being 6ome 225 ahead of last year. To show the expansion of .this show, the present year's entries exceed those of 1911 by "1620. These figures refer to.:competi•tive. exhibits only, and do not' include the exhibits of machinery and various' other details shown on the many stands and stalls. The demand for space under tho Litter headings has exceeded any .previous year. The committee are faoed with tho position that much more space is required, notwithstanding the fact "that another 1500 square-feet has 'been added recently. The total space available under cover now approximates 55,000 square feet. In addition to tlie' great jmmber of exhibits contained in the buildings, large number's, such as imotor Exhibitors, now avail themselves <oS tents, etc., on the grounds, to say nothing:-of side-shows, which are'yearly increasing in number. A feature to W introduced for the first, time this year is a fruit-grading and packing competition,'.whic!] will be held on the second 'and, third days of the show. A new and '(separate division has also been created for the encouragement of honey The Manawatu Poultry Exhibition has a large of cutries this year, the anticipation of which fully justifies 1 the . recent extension of the poultry hull by. 25 feot. There Should, •be .something , like 1020- birds for the .public to inspect,., most; of these,. beingi tho • gick' of the Dominion's poultry yards.* .'Special attention has been drawn i <tp the " grand demonstration by the schools ;to be given on the first day. A real treat is; in. store for 'visitors on 4ihat day, as there - is -to -be a physical 'drill display by some 800 children, a 'crowd that'is 1 just about able to manoeuvre .on ihp oval. The other three days are well provided for in the way of outside sports, "and. everything points to a particularly successful event-.
