OBSCENE WRITING ON WALLS.

Sir,—Permit me space to bring forward a matter oalling for attention.. No doubt many have regretted that obscene writing is frequently to be seen on painted walls. The Railway Department has done much to prevent this nuisance by the simple method of sand, ing the wet paint. This has made many a place respectable where before it was not so. I think that heads of business houses, factories, and Government Departments would do as the Railway Department is doing if they looked into the matter, as it concerns their .premises. 1 saw a .village store recently where the front, up to six feet, was covered with writing, whereas the disreputable appearance would disappear with a new coat and sand.—l am, etc., TRAVELLER.
