« CONFERENCE OF LOCAL BODIES. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Woodville, June 2. A confcrence of local bodies was held to-day. The delegates present were: Messrs. Hodgins, chairman Pahiatua County Council president; H. Burrell Oroua; D. Hughes and Escott, Woodville County; H. Home (Mayor) and J. Harding, Woodville Borough; Mr. R, Dillon, engineer of tho Pahiatua County, also attended. The conference was contensd by tha Pahiatua Council, the controlling body, to deal with the question of the Manawatu Gorge Road. The delegates inspected the bridge, and the chairman decided it was in a bad state. It was resolved that tho Pahiatua County obtain estimates for a newbridge, in wood, in fcrro-concrete, or steei.

It was resolved that the conference support the Kairanga County in its endev,v>tir to have tho road taken over as a national road, and that a deputation wait on the Government next session. It was further decided that the Pahiatua County have a tally taken of the traffic on the Gorge Road from November or December, 1915, to January, 1916.
