WHO SHOULD SERVE.
(To the Editor.) Sir,—The few ' correspondents who have defended those men who have not enlisted —with many excuses —and the many who have denounced the unwilling single eligible, have proved one thing at least, i.e., that the Bhirker does exist. If there are no shirkers, why make so many excuses for them? Why ask your paper to bury £he controversy in oblivion? Why ask for compulsory service? It is all nonsense. There are plenty of healthy,_ able-to-pass-the-test young men, who ignore the call, and who deliberately shut their eyes to the gravity of the situation. Roughly speaking, tlWre are 50,000 such like in New Zealand. You will see them walking about Wellington City at night and you will see them at the picturo shoivs, both day and night.—l am, etc., A GIRL.
