RUSSIANS HOLD FORTIFIED TRENCHES

. . London, May 28. Military critics point out that the Russian trenches south-east of Przemysl are fortified with reinforced concrete, hence the determined resistance.
The Archduke Joseph Ferdinand has concentrated large reinforcements on an eight-mile line from Hussakow and six miles behind is the Lemberg railway, which is supplying all the Russians in the region. It is estimated the German casualties in the West Galicia drive are already 106,000. '
AUSTRIANS CLAIM TO HAVE BROKEN THE RUSSIAN LINE,
. Amstsrdam, May 28. A Vienna official message states:—"Wo captured Nienowico, and Hosodysko Height, making prisoner of two thousand and taking six guns. Wo penetrated to the main position, near Hussakow, south-east of Przemysl capturing 2800 prisoners and eleven machine-guns. Wo have broken the' line near Striji, and the Russians are retreating."

n - . , . ~ , Petrograd, May 28. Official.—A very stubborn battle on both banks of the River San, between Przemysl and the River Lubasz, continues with great intensity. The enemy on May 25 opened a, determined offensive along the whole front from the Dneister marshes to Dolina,
The Germans for three days suffered enormous losses, and were nowhere successful. The hostile elements which penetrated between the point d'appuui near Striji, weTe destroyed by our fire. During a counter-attack we took many prisoners.
