It was contended that there wero a number ol awards in Otago and Southland which contained special provision for manure workers, but in no ease was the wa<*c less than Is. 3d. per hour, in South Canterbury, in the grain and woo] workers' award, the men handling oil or mixing manure wero paid ls.°4idi tier hour. For the employers it was contended that in this dispute a very big principle was involved, that ivas whether men who were in constant employment wero entitled to receivc the samo wages as men who were only engaged for sis or seven months in the year. It would be found that those men who were in permanent work and rcccivcd constant wages had always hoen treated difl'erontlv to those with broken time. Tho increase jn wages to 10s. per day was going to affect all manufacturing industries in tho Dominion. The Court took time to consider it? decision.
