SERIOUS ALLEGATIONS
MILITARY CONTRACTS IN AUSTRALIA. Melbourne, May 26. The Attorney-General's Department is taking action in connection with serious allegations regarding contracts. The authorities are' reticent. INDICTMENTS ISSUED. (Rec. May 26, fl p.m.) Melbourne, Stay 26. Ia connection with tho allegations concerning the Defence Department's contracts, High Court indictments have been issued by tho Federal AttorneyGeneral (Mr. 'Hughes) against Arthur Kidman, of Sydney, alleging the forgery and uttei'ing of certain documents and tenders for military supplies. Against the same defendant, together witK Major Arthur George O'Doniiell and Sergeant Leslie, of Sydney, it is alleged that there was a conspiracy to cheat and defraud the Government of large sums of money in connection with the supply of goods for the Defence Forces of the Commonwealth, and by procuring that the Commonwealth should pay excessive prices for such goods. The indictments allege four conspiracy offences, and against Arthur Kidman two charges of forgery and uttering between August, 1914, and the current month.
