New Plymouth, May 18. Mr. Justice Edwards presided at the Supreme Court, which opened here today. In his charge to the Grand Judy the Judge congratulated the district on the prevailing peace and good order. There was only one bill, and the jury returned a true bill on all counts. Florence Livinia Walls, who was charged wih concealing the birth of her child, was ordered to come up for sentence when called on.
Joseph Haseldene, travelling with Barton's, Circus, was charged with committing rape on a Maori girl at Rakotu on April 9. last, with committing an indecent assault on her, and with carnally knowing a girl under age 16. Haseldene was sentenced to six years' hard labour.
In tho Divorce Court a decree nisi was granted John Hopkins against Elizabeth Mary Hopkins on the ground of. desertion and cohabitating with John Chadwick.
