PUBLIC SERVICE CONTRIBUTIONS
A meeting of permanent heads of Departments and representatives of the Public Service Association was held in the Government Buildings oil Friday last to consider to what fund the voluntary, contributions from members of the Public Service for May and succeeding months should be devoted. Mr. Blow occupied the chair, and stated that up to the date of the meeting no less than £14,082 had been subscribed by tho officers of the Public Service (outside of 'lie Railway Dopart.racnt and the Police) to tho War and Poor Relief Funds. On the motion of Mr. J. E. Smith it was decidcd that fclie contributions for May, and until some further reslutionis arrived at, bo fl fund for the relief of distress consequent, on casualties to New Zealaiiders on active service. Dr. Fitchett moved as ah addition: "That the Government be asked to eppropriate to tin's fund the contributions from the Public Service that have not been actually paid over to other funds,' 1 and this was agreed to. . . A committee consisting of Dr. Fitcnett, Messrs.
