The Wairarapa War Relief Committee is retaining one quarter of its fluids for the assistance of wounded soldiers or the dependents of those killed in tho war. A sum of £3492 is already in hand for this purpose. At the Lyceum last evening a ballot was taken for tho election of a Hutt and l'etone representative in -.ounection with the carnival queen competition, with tho following result: —Miss M. Senior (nominated by Petone Woollen Mills), 30.004 votes; Miss V. Burridge, 9142; Miss V. Davis, 5G98; Miss D. Wakelin, 3420; and Miss E. Battersb'y, 1704. At the Normandale Schoolroom last evening a farewell social was tendered to Mr. H. Fannan, a settler, v.-ho is leaving the district to take sp fanning pursuits. There was a good attendance and the guest of the evening, who has been chairman of the Normandale Social Committee for a considerable time, was tho recipient of a handsome travelling rug, and a handbag for Mrs. Fannan. An unreserved auction sale of 5 English motor-cars, five and six-seaters, under instructions of tho holders of a bill of sale will bo held on Wednesday next. The agents, Me?firs. A. L. Wilson and Co., will poll the cars along with motor sundries at Messrs. Headland and Robinson's Queen Garage, opposite the Queen's Statue, Cambridge Torrace.
