(Rec. May 15, 1.60 a.m.)

Rome, May If

Signor Salaudra and Baron Sonnino, whose Government 2ms just lesigned, had resolved on war, believing it to bo the only solution to preserve Italian honour.

Signor Giolitti's supporters who form teh Parliamentary majority hitherto supported the Government. Italian feeling during the last three months has undergone a remarkable change. Tho old enmity to Austria has been. _ superseded by an anti-Gennan sentiment There is growing anger against German methods. The "Popolo Romano" publishes an exposition on the military situation, suggesting that the Germans had ten army corps to crash upon Italy like an avalanche and devastate Venetia and Lombard?.

It is stated that the King gave? on audience to Prince von Bulow, and asked what guarantees Italy had that the concessions would be permanent. Von Bulow replied; "The word of Germany." The King answered: "It is too late in the day for suoli a' gauarantee to be acceptable."

M.
