SIGNOR GIOLITTI'S MERCANTILE ATTITUDE CONDEMNED ITALY MUST DO HER SHARE TO CRUSH PRUSSIAN MILITARISM (Rec. May 14, 9.30 p.m.) Rome, May 14. The troops have been called out owing to the increasing exoitement of tho crowds, who are parading tho streots and threatening tho neutralists, particularly Si(»nor Giolitti. Those in favour of war include tho Democrats, Radicals, Reform Socialists, Republicans, Nationalists, and supporters of the Cabinet. The neutralists includo Catholics and Consorvatists and supporters of Signor Giolitti. The latter's open declaration that war should bo avoided, and that Italy will obtain adequate concessions from Austria, has brought tho internal conflict to a head. A large majority of the Italian people condemn Signor Giolitti's mercantile attitude, anjd believe that war is necessary, whatever territorial satisfaction is given. It is believed that Italy must do her share in re-ostab-lishing_ law, justice, and humanity, and crushing: tho Gorman militarism, which is a peril to civilisation.
