To-night will see the last presentation, at MacMahon's Theatre of the big fouract drama "The Hedemption of David Corsor," a play which ranks' alongside "Tho Silence of Dean Maitland" for human interest and vivid action. Thera ts a good supporting programme of scenic, comedic, and topical subjects. On Monday a specially strong attraction, is announced in'a-five-act photo-drama-tieation of Marie Corelli's "Vendetta," which book has scored an unprecedented success, and it was inevitable that it should ultimately find ite way into the picture theatres. This film, which is an entirely new release, ha 6 been secured exclusively for MacMahon's Theatre. The photo-play will be supported by "a well-diversified series of miscellaneous _ pictures of dramatic, comedic, scenio, and topical character. THE EMPRESS THEATRE. At the Empress Theatre continuous pictures to-day and to-night, the current programme, headed by the eighth series of the Selig Company's wild animal drama "The Adventures of Kathlyn," will be screened for the last time. Tho auxiliary films include "Hearts and Diamonds," a Vitagraph" comedy with John Bunny and Flora-Finch in most' laughable roles. The new programme on Monday will bring forward the Edison Company's thrilling detective'drama "Tracked by the Hounds." The play deals with the abduotion of a young lady by a foreign count. The missing }'oimg_ lady is traoked by hounds, and the crime is shectod'home to the guilty. Among the rest of the items will be "The Topical Budget," "Rum. and \Yall- , paper" (Keystone oomedy), and "Tho Liar's Omletto" (cartoon). PEOPLE'S PICTURE PALACE. To-day. and to-night the great Biblical picture "Samson" will be shown for tho last time at the People's Pioture Palace. The film, which is really one of the finest of its kind seen in Wellington, has attracted great attention throughout tho week, and record business lias been done. There are soma good supporting films on the programme. The usual change will be made on 'Monday. ORGAN RECITAL TO-NIGHT. At to-night's organ recital to be given in the Town Hall, the City Organist (Mr. Bernard F. Page) is somewhat breaking new ground by giving a programme made up entirely of orchestral items. To-night's programme is expected to appeal to all lovers of music who have not heard the works played by a good orchestra. The following items make up the programme:—Prelude to Act I "Tristan and Isolde," Prelude to Act 111 of the same work. (Wagner), Symphonic Poem "Danse Macabre" (Snint-Saens),' Psychological Poem "Le Genio et la Mort" (Rebikoff), Elegy No. 2 (Tchaikovsky), and Grieg's "Peer Gynt Suite No. 1." BLASCHECK. Mr. Joseph Blascheck, the English society entertainer, concluded a very successful season at the Grand Opera House last night before a most enthusiastic audience. Mr. lilascheck commences a country tour at Palmerston North' this evening. The company will also play in Masterton, Dannevirke, Feilding, and Lower Hutt during the week, after which they start at Christchurch their tour of the South Island. SUNDAY CONCERT. An interesting programme has. been arranged for the concert to be given by tho, Wellington Professional Orchestra in His Majesty's Theatre to-morrow evening. Mr. W. H. Bowman will contribute a cornet solo, and the first local performances will bo given of the prelude to Giordano's opera "Siberia,"'and a pizzicati by Mahe. Among other items by tho orchestra will be Mendelssohn's "Ruy Bias" overture, Boccherini's Menuet for strings, a "Faust" fantasia, and the overture "Pique Damo" (Suppe). A silver coin collection will be taken up at the doors in aid of tho library fund. THE LABOUR MARKET CONDITION IN OTHER CENTRES. Tho Labour Department has received a summary from outside centres covering the unemployment for the'week ending May 8. This shows that tho worst conditions prevail in Auckland, wlioro 141 applications wore received. Of these 11114 wore labourers. Of tho total 43 wore placed, and there is now very little unemployment amongst skilled workers. Tho Department has been authorised; to send suitable men to public works.? flic state of the unskilled labour market is 110 doubt due to tlio fact that tho majority are unwilling to go to the country. In Christchurch 2G applications (20 labourers) were received. Throe carpenters were placcd, leaving 23 for whom work was required.
