ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
FOUND DROWNED AT OTAKI. Superintendent Ellison has been advised that on Thursday the , body of Wybrants -Olphert, 70 years of age, was fouiifi in the Otaki River about a miio below the township. Tho late Mr. Olphret was formerly an officer in His Majesty's 14th Roaiment, and was a nativo of Ball.vcainild, County Donegal, whero his brother, Sir John Olphert, is County Lieutenant. _ Recently he had been teaching at a private native school at Kapiti Island, but had been missing sinco May 11. His son, who was chief officer on the Now Zealand Shipping Company's Remuera, was a lieutenant of the Royal Naval Reserve, and left for England last year to join the Navy, subsequently being appointed to an auxiliary cruiscr.
CLUB STEWARD SCALDED. C. Edwards, a steward at the Working Men's Club, met with a painful accident about mid-day yesterday. Ho was carrying a tub of boiling water in one of the clnb rooms and accidentally slipped and partly falling into tho receptacle. Ho was so badly scalded about the lower part of bis body that lie had to ho taken to the Hospital. DRIVER FOUND DROWNED. Hamilton, May 14. The body of Richard Hill, aged 30, driver for Innes's brewery, was recovered from the Waikato River yesterday. It was shown at tho inquest that deceased was delirious and depressed, the ■results of_ influenza. _ He walked into the river in night attire. A verdict of found drowned was returned.
