ANOTHER SCORE FOR MR MASSEY

EXTRA INSULATED SPACE DELPHIC TO ARRIVE IN BALLAST. For the last fortnight, or thereabouts, the Prime Minister (the Eight Hon. W. F. Massey) has been in negotiation with the British Board of Trade, with the object of getting at least ono insulated ship in addition to those coming here in the ordinary course. The negotiations have been brought to & successful issue, and Mr. Massey was informed by cablegram yesterday that the Board of Trade will send out the steamer Delphio to New Zealand, in ballast, at a cost of £15,000. The whole of the cost will bo borne by the board. The Delphic will leave England on a date between May 15 and 20, coming direct to New Zealand. In the ordinary course this, ship would have taken a cargo to Australia, and probably have come on from a Commonwealth port to this country. It will thus be seen that there is >i saving of time of several months by the arrangement just made. ! , In compliance with a request from Mr. Fisher, Prime Minister of tlio Commonwealth, Mr. Massey has arranged to give one of the Commonwealth veterinary inspectors all possible facilities for I seeing the arrangement's ■in this country for the export meat trade. It is evident from the above that Australia is taking an interest ill the way the New Zealand trade is handled, and in this connection it is to note that according to tlie_ Australian Meat Trade Journal the New South Wales Government had dispatched to May 4 worth of meat to the Imperial authorities for Army purposes. Up to date the Now Zealand Government has forwarded a little over £1,500,000 for practically the same period. The journal referred to says that the difficulty ill New South Wales is to secure sufficient tonnage, and that part of the business is being carried out by a 6ub-commiitee of tlio Shipping Committee in England.
